The Ford Fiesta, first launched in 1976 in the UK has become on the nation’s favourites car and small van. In the last couple of days Ford has announced it will stop building the Ford Fiesta next summer. This is a full year earlier than first intended as Ford, in partnership with VW, embarks on some ambitious electric car and van plans.
Various sources close to Ford have said that the new Electric car models, will be built in Cologne, Germany from as early as June 2023.
Declining Popularity of the Ford Fiesta
Despite its popularity, the Ford Fiesta has seen a steady decline in sales, partly due to drivers preferring crossover vehicles to the humble hatchback. According to Dataforce, Fiesta sales in Europe fell to 39,395 through August from 72,302 in the first eight months of 2022. Production of the 3-door fiesta and, essentially, the van were halted back in the summer.
