From the 24th April, new speeding fines have been in place across the UK meaning that you could face a fine of up to 175% of your weekly income if you are caught speeding. Speeding fines are being broken down into 3 bands A, B, & C.
Band A:
A Band A fine is generally set at 50% of weekly income but has a lower limit of 25% and an upper limit of 75%. Carrying 3 penalty points.
Band B:
A Band B fine is generally set at 100% of weekly income but has a lower limit of 75% and an upper limit of 125%. Carrying between 4-6 penalty points or disqualification from driver between 7-28 days.
Band C:
A Band C fine is generally set at 150% of weekly income but has a lower limit of 125% and an upper limit of 175%. Carrying between 6 penalty points or disqualification from driver between 7-56 days.

The starting point applies to all offenders irrespective of plea or previous convictions.

Factors That Increase The Seriousness
- Previous convictions, having regard to a) the nature of the offence to which the conviction relates and its relevance to the current offence; and b) the time that has elapsed since the conviction
- Offence committed whilst on bail
Other aggravating factors:
- Offence committed on licence or post-sentence supervision
- Poor road or weather conditions
- Driving LGV, HGV, PSV, etc.
- Towing caravan/trailer
- Carrying passengers or heavy load
- Driving for hire or reward
- Evidence of unacceptable standard of driving over and above the speed
- Location e.g. near a school
- High level of traffic or pedestrians in the vicinity
Factors reducing seriousness
- No previous convictions or no relevant/recent convictions
- Good character and/or exemplary conduct
- Genuine emergency established
