Potholes are the pet hate of many motorists and van drivers in the UK. Newspaper headlines such as ~Britain’s roads facing ‘pothole crisis’ after winter big freeze” ( Metro UK ) are common and many road users are becoming frustrated with the number of potholes on the lanes, streets and highways on the UK.
How do Potholes form?
Potholes are formed by three elements: surface cracks, water and traffic. Small surface cracks form and expand over time with the action of traffic. Water then seeps through the surface of the cracked pavement, causing further deterioration. The 2022/2023 winter has been a perfect storm for the formation of potholes as the natural freeze-thaw action expands the slightest crack in the road surface, soon enlarging it into a small pothole then a large one. Engineering and weather experts say that spring is often the worst time for the formation of potholes, so perhaps the worst is yet to come.
Crusader Vans and Potholes
At Crusader Vans we know that it only takes one pothole for a tyre or even a wheel to be damaged and this can be costly. There are two ways this cost can be avoided, a maintenance plan with your van and reporting potholes.
Having a Maintenance Plan with a new leased van doesn’t make the potholes go away. A Maintenance Plan does however mean there are no expensive surprises if you hit a pothole at 40 miles per hour. New budget tyres for a typical, standard Ford Transit will cost anything from £85 plus VAT, if a wheel has been damaged it can cost much more. With a maintenance plan as part of your lease, premium tyre replacement tyres are included!
Reporting and Sharing Potholes
Informing road users of Potholes on British roads is something many motorists will appreciate. There are two ways to report a pothole:
- Fix my Street – https://www.fixmystreet.com/
- Government Website – https://www.gov.uk/report-pothole
Pond or Pothole
Can you tell the difference between Pond and Pothole? Some of the Potholes on the road of Britain have become so big that they are bigger than some garden ponds – some have been seen with ducks swimming in them! We want to see your pictures of the largest, most dangerous or even the most scenic potholes you come across as you drive your van – of course we want you to make sure it is safe to take any pictures. We then want the public to decide if you have posted a picture of a pond or pothole – then we will kindly ask you to report it on one of the above platforms.
How and where to post your Pictures?
Follow Crusader Vans and post your pictures on Facebook , Instagram, Twitter or LInkedIn with the hashtag #PondOrPothole and mention Crusader Vans and let’s see who can tell the difference between a pond and a pothole.
