Ford has just revealed its most affordable fully-electric van yet, and we're delighted to confirm that Crusader Vans will soon be opening order banks for the all-new Transit City. If you're an urban business looking to make the switch to electric without the usual price tag, this is the van you've been waiting for.

What is the Ford Transit City?
The Transit City is a brand-new addition to Ford's electric commercial line-up, built specifically for cost-conscious businesses operating in cities and clean air zones. Unlike the existing e-Transit Custom, the Transit City is stripped back to the essentials - no confusing options list, just one comprehensive specification that keeps things simple and keeps costs down.
It's available in three configurations to suit different jobs:
- L1H1 — a compact, short-wheelbase van ideal for tight urban streets, with a payload of up to 1,085 kg
- L2H2 — a longer, higher-capacity van with a payload of up to 1,275 kg and around 8 cubic metres of load space
- Chassis Cab — Ford's first entry into the one-tonne chassis cab segment, opening the door to a wide range of factory-approved conversions
Built for the way businesses actually drive
Ford's own data shows that 90% of vans in this segment cover less than 68 miles a day - so the Transit City has been engineered around real-world urban use rather than maximum range on paper. Every model gets a 56 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery paired with a 110 kW front-mounted electric motor, targeting up to 158 miles of range.
Charging is quick and flexible:
- 11 kW AC charging: 10–80% in around 4.5 hours - perfect overnight
- 87 kW DC fast charging: 10–80% in roughly 33 minutes, or add 31 miles of range in just 10 minutes - ideal for a lunch break top-up
Every Transit City comes well equipped as standard, including a 12-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless start, air conditioning, a heated driver's seat, a rear-view camera, and one-pedal driving. Ford is also backing the high-voltage components with an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
With fewer moving parts than a diesel equivalent, Ford expects servicing costs to fall by around 40%, alongside a generous two-year/25,000-mile service interval - good news for any fleet keeping a close eye on running costs.
Understanding the grant: how it works right now
There's some important detail on how that £5,000 is currently structured while we wait on a government decision, and we want our customers to have full clarity before ordering.
Ford is working with the UK Government to secure approval for the Plug-in Vehicle Grant (PiVG) for the Transit City. Until that approval comes through, Ford has put a £5,000 (excluding VAT) Grant Guarantee in place, so customers aren't left waiting in limbo.
Here's how it works:
- If the Government approves the PiVG, you'll receive the grant through the official government scheme.
- If the Government does not approve the PiVG, Ford will instead pay out its own £5,000 (excluding VAT) Grant Guarantee.
- The two cannot be claimed together - it's one or the other, not both.
A few important conditions to be aware of:
- Your Transit City should not be registered before the PiVG is officially confirmed and live on the government portal, or before 30 September 2026 - whichever comes first.
- If a vehicle is registered too early, neither Ford nor the Government will provide any grant support, so timing matters.
- Once the PiVG is confirmed, we'll submit the claim through the government portal on your behalf - this step has to happen, or neither the government grant nor Ford's Grant Guarantee will be paid.
In short: as long as your Transit City is registered at the right time and the claim is submitted correctly, you'll receive either the Government's Plug-in Vehicle Grant or Ford's £5,000 Grant Guarantee. We'll guide you through the timing so you don't need to worry about the details yourself.
